When you make horses part of your life, they have a habit of taking it over. That was what happened to my daughter and me. As a 4-H project, she convinced me to get her a horse (it didn’t take much convincing). Over the years, one horse turned into three and a 4-H project turned into a life-long passion. 

So, it was that in 2014 when we lost two of our horses to a reckless driver, we felt as if we had lost more than just family members. We had lost part of our hearts. To ease her grieving and memorialize the horse that had become her most beloved companion, I made for my daughter a shadow box from her horse’s horseshoe, part of his halter, and a lock of his mane. 

The process of creating the memorial was therapeutic, and eased my own grief, so I followed the project with a second one, this time paying tribute to both horses lost. Over time, my therapy project became a hobby, then a passion of its own. Eventually, enough people had shown interest that I opened my business and called it Stitched Memories & Horseshoes. 

These days, I create more than just beaded horseshoes and memorials but also just about anything you can put a horse shoe on and have it look like it belongs. Wedding samplers with two horseshoes joined together and displayed in the style of the wedding are especially popular. Decorations are handcrafted and hand painted from high-quality upcycled and refurbished materials (waste not, want not) and each item is 100% original and unique.
